The best way to understand “tremolo” vs “vibrato” (the ‘a’is a soft,’ah’a:
Tremolo is a change/alteration in VOLUME whereas vibrato is a change in actual PITCH. This is where the mechanical Bixby or misnamed ‘tremolo’ bar comes in. When employed they either slacken or tighten the sting—and the struck note either flattens or raises in pitch, but not volume. NOTE: Whereas many amps employ tremolo, few have true vibrato, Magnatone being one that does.
